thrive at work review: features, research, pricing and alternatives

A review published by the platform's own company, written to answer the questions organizations ask before buying, including the awkward ones.

Our verdict

thrive at work differs from conventional engagement platforms in one way that matters: it measures capacity next to engagement. Capacity means whether people have anything left to give. That makes it most relevant to organizations that already know how committed their people are and want to know whether those people can keep performing. It is a young platform, with 3 pilot customers and a commercial launch in September 2026, so the customer evidence is early. It is not a performance-management system and not an HR system.

What thrive at work does

thrive at work is a workforce performance platform. The operating model has five steps, always in this order:

  1. Measure. The thrive employee survey™ asks employees about their everyday work. One instrument covers capacity and engagement.
  2. Reveal. The thrive index™ and thrive matrix™ show where each team is thriving, coasting, at risk or depleted.
  3. Explain. thrive insights™ points to the likely causes and priorities for each team.
  4. Act. thrive action plans™ turn the results into specific steps for each role.
  5. Improve and sustain. thrive academy™ gives every employee a private result and short courses matched to it. The next survey shows what changed.

Capacity: the part that is different

Most engagement tools ask whether people are motivated, connected and committed. That is half the picture. A person can be committed and have nothing left by Thursday.

thrive at work asks about four things in everyday terms: what people have when they start the day, whether the work leaves time to recover, whether there is room to concentrate, and whether people hold up when pressure keeps going. Full explanation: how thrive at work measures capacity.

Engagement covers four more: whether the work feels worth doing, whether people trust the people leading them, whether they have people at work they can rely on, and whether they have somewhere to develop and what the job needs.

How the survey is built

The survey is behavior-anchored. It asks about what happens at work, not about medical symptoms. It is informed by biomarker and physiological research, and it does not collect biomarker, wearable or other biometric data. thrive at work is not a medical diagnostic tool.

How the score is built is not published. What is public: employees answer a set of statements about their work, the answers are combined into results for each area, and the two halves are reported together.

Privacy: who sees what

  • Employees see their own result. Nobody else does.
  • Managers see their own team's combined results, only when 5 or more people answered.
  • HR and People teams see results across the organization, with no individuals.
  • Executives see results by segment.

No individual score exists in the product for an employer to open. This is a design rule, not a setting.

Action plans and learning

thrive action plans™ give each manager specific steps tied to what their team's results showed, for example protecting time to concentrate, easing a heavy workload, or holding a regular check-in. In the current platform each user sees their own plans in their own account.

thrive academy™ is a library of short courses, around five minutes each, matched to each employee's private results. The courses are the employee's. Employers do not see who took what.

Implementation

Setup supports single sign-on. Employees arrive either through an HRIS sync or an uploaded employee list (CSV or Excel). Onboarding and admin training are remote as standard. Organizations can run as many surveys as they like. thrive at work recommends one thrive index™ survey a year plus pulse surveys when needed. Details of what implementation involves: pricing.

Security and compliance

  • GDPR: the platform is built to EU data rules, with an audit trail.
  • ISO 27001: the information security management system is in place and the audit is scheduled. Certification has not been issued.
  • SOC 2 Type II: in progress. The report has not been issued.

thrive at work uses AI to speed up software development and routine tasks and to produce content such as avatars and images. It does not use AI for research, for processing personal data, or for the science.

Pricing in one paragraph

Priced per organization, from the number of employees invited, with a platform component and a per-employee rate that falls as headcount grows. Services such as workshops, extra languages and premium support are priced separately. No exact figures are published. See pricing.

What we like

  • Capacity next to engagement. One survey, one report, both halves.
  • Privacy that is structural. Individual results stay with the employee, and managers see teams of 5 or more.
  • Results that lead somewhere. Action plans for managers and courses for employees come with the survey.
  • A research basis. The capacity model draws on physiology, psychology, occupational health and longevity science.
  • No feature tiers. Every customer gets the same platform. Size changes the price and the service, not the product.

Things to consider

  • A young platform. Commercial launch was September 2026. There are 3 pilot customers. Published customer evidence is limited, which is why reviews and customers explain how evidence is collected rather than showing quotes.
  • English for managers, HR and executives. The employee survey, dashboard and course library can be translated. Manager action-plan output, HR and admin screens and executive reports are in English for now.
  • Fewer integrations than the largest suites. HRIS sync and single sign-on are included. Large suites such as Workday Peakon and Culture Amp list more connections to other HR tools.
  • Capacity is a newer idea in HR. Stakeholders may need a short explanation of why it is measured next to engagement.
  • Certifications are not finished. ISO 27001 and SOC 2 are in progress, which matters for procurement teams that require them at signing.
  • Benchmarks compare with published research. Results are compared with a relevant workforce drawn from published market research, not yet with a large dataset built from thrive at work customers.
  • No free trial. Evaluation happens through a demo and, where it fits, a scoped pilot.

Best for, and not designed for

Best for: organizations that already measure engagement and want to find out what is holding performance back; HR and People teams that need results managers can act on.

Not designed for: performance management, goal tracking or 360 feedback; an HR information system; a basic annual engagement questionnaire with no follow-through; any use that needs individual-level data about employees.

How it compares

Culture Amp is a broad employee-experience suite. Gallup is the Q12 engagement standard. Qualtrics is an enterprise experience-management suite. Workday Peakon is continuous listening inside the Workday ecosystem. 15Five is manager-led performance and coaching. thrive at work is built around measuring capacity next to engagement. All options: alternatives to thrive at work.
